How To Fix Washing Machine That Turns Slowly

by Cecile Cinco

It used to be that I would just “clear” whatever dirt that may be clogging the spinner when it slows down by inserting the handle of a spoon or form or a flat screwdriver at the side while i let it spin then drain the water out as if flushing the grime that has been accumulated and scraped off. It used to work until one day, I really can’t use it anymore and it roared sounds that will easily warn you that something is terribly wrong.

I tried to look at the machine. When I tried to spin it, sparks came from the motor and it smelled like burning wire. It seemed the motor is the culprit. I saw water dripping also so it might have caused the burning. I thought I’ll have to leave it to the expert. I tried to look for someone to fix it but the only person in the area is available on a Sunday only. It was like 5 days away and I needed the machine that day or on the morrow at the latest.

While at the office, hubby decided to ask G, the search engine. He found out it could be the belt so he buzzed me. I gave it another look. I took the belt out and immediately went my way to find a replacement. It was not easy. None was available in my area 5km away. I walked most of the stretch. I decided to go farther South from where I used to live which took me more than an hour to reach. There was no size in the store I knew sold such. There was a size smaller and bigger but missed the size I needed. Good thing I passed by the real estate office I used to frequent which is just next to the store. I was then referred to the town proper which I know well. The first one did not have my size. The store across did. :)

When I got home after 3 hours I wound the motor with the new belt. I am now enjoying my washing machine just like it was when I first bought it brand new. :)

  6. I’m not really technical in this sense. If something is broken in our house I usually just let hubby know, call somebody who can fix or throw it away :( I wish I had the technical skills just like you. Hubby would be thrilled to see this post though for sure!

@Ella, I have a background with radios, tvs and motors before i got into computers in ’85. I might as well use what I know. At least the principles. :)

It’s good that your husband was able to fix it by himself. When our washing machine failed to run, I brought it to my neighbor fix-it guy and he charge me Php800 for replacing the belt and capacitor (replaced it with a used one that he had).

Next time I know what to do.

I wonder if the Deeco Electronics store in Sta. Rosa, Laguna still exists. We used to buy electronic parts when we were still living there.

  12. I believe my friend should have to read this. Hahaha. This made me laugh cause my friend needs to fix his washing machine. It runs too slow. He doesn’t need someone to fix it but instead, he can do it on his own.
